21 Short description of the main objectives and purposes of the project

The main objective of the project was to bring together two libraries: the library of the faculty of pharmacy (located in a new building built in 2007) and the library of the IUT Robert Schuman (located in the IUT), in order to get more space for readers and librarians, more group study and more services.

The library is located on the Illkirch campus, accessible from the center of Strasbourg by tramway (about 20 min). CHYBÍ!!

23 Architecture

The first level of the library was built in 2006, and the library of pharmacy is located here from this date; it includes two reading rooms, two offices, 3 group study rooms, a small cafeteria. The extension, planned from the start, had these objectives:

- The restructuring of a part of the ground floor, with the creation of a training room and a press room, the enlargement of the cafeteria and the creation of a room for the staff;

- The construction of a central main staircase giving access to the floor;

- The creation of a reading room and 9 group study on the first floor;

- The installation of 4 offices for the staff.

The building consists of a reinforced concrete structure covered with concrete; on the South, the East and the West, vertical wooden blades cover the walls.
